However, the buying was offset by moves to lock In gains, with selling in shipping stocks suchas Yusen Logistics and transportation company Kawasaki Kisen. The top-tier Prime market was led by rubber product and precision instrument issues, while main decliners were marine transportation and iron and steel issues.Issues that fell outpaced those that rose by 1,408 to 380, while 49 ended the day unchanged.

TOKYO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed on Wednesday as profit-taking investors moved to lock in gains after sharp rises the previous trading day.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 189.98 points, or 0.60 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 31,936.51.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 4.35 points, or 0.19 percent, lower at 2,307.84.
Market watchers here said Wednesday's market saw notable buying in semiconductor-related stocks such as Tokyo Electron, Advantest and Lasertec, on expectations that the market has bottomed out, as investors here bet on favorable performances by Japanese firms ahead of quarterly financial result releases.
However, the buying was offset by moves to lock in gains, with selling in shipping stocks such as Yusen Logistics and transportation company Kawasaki Kisen, which had risen sharply the previous day.
On the top-tier Prime market, gainers were led by rubber product and precision instrument issues, while main decliners were marine transportation and iron and steel issues.
Issues that fell outpaced those that rose by 1,408 to 380, while 49 ended the day unchanged.
